Programs

The Center for African American Health provides disease prevention and chronic disease self-management programs to African Americans living in the metro Denver area.
Fit, Body, & Soul - Healthy Lifestyle Program
The Fit, Body, & Soul year-long lifestyle program is designed to inspire you to confidently embrace living a healthier life! This program incorporates physical activity and healthy eating into your daily regimen with the help of a fitness trainer, nutritionist and a personal coach. You will lose weight and increase your stamina!
Connect For Health Colorado
The Center for African American Health is conducting Health Care Reform 101 Information Sessions and Enrollment Events to help the community understand what is being offered through the Connect for Health Colorado marketplace. We will explain in face to face settings the types of financial assistance options that may be available to individuals and families to reduce the cost of health insurance.
Faith & Health Ministries
Faith & Health Ministries works through black churches throughout metro Denver to promote healthy lives and lifestyles, and prevent disease.
Chronic Disease Self-Management Programs
Self-management programs are designed to help people with chronic diseases gain self-confidence in their ability to control their symptoms and control how their health problems affect their lives.
Diabetes Self-Management Program
Focus on Diabetes is a six-week class that teaches individuals living with diabetes, and their caregivers, skills related to proper nutrition, the use of medication, a suitable exercise program, dealing with emotions, and communicating with their health care provider.
Disease Prevention Programs
Preventing disease and promoting healthy lifestyles is a major focus of the work of the Center for African-American Health.
Colon Cancer Awareness
The Center conducts an annual outreach campaign to African Americans encouraging them to get screened for colon cancer.
Senior Wellness
The Center for African-American Health is committed to enhancing the quality of life for seniors, extending the time they can live independently, and promoting healthy lifestyle behaviors for the 60-plus age group.
A Matter of Balance
Many seniors experience fear of falling and restrict their activities. A Matter of Balance emphasizes practical strategies to reduce this fear and increase physical activity levels. A Matter of Balance includes eight two-hour sessions for a small group led by a trained facilitator. This program was developed at the Roybal Center at Boston University and has been nationally recognized.
