The Center for African American Health provides disease prevention and chronic disease self-management programs to African Americans living in the metro Denver area.

Disease Prevention Programs
Preventing disease and promoting healthy lifestyles is a major focus of the work of the Center for African-American Health.

Faith & Health Ministries
Faith & Health Ministries works through black churches throughout metro Denver to promote healthy lives and lifestyles, and prevent disease. Read more

Health Fair
The Center sponsors an annual health fair for African Americans each February that features free and low-cost health screenings, workshops on a wide variety of disease prevention and health promotion topics, and educational materials provided free by participating health education organizations. Breast Cancer Navigator Program
The breast cancer navigator program works to improve the outcome for black women with breast cancer by teaching the community about early detection - providing clinical breast exams and referring women for free mammograms - and by helping women diagnosed with breast cancer to get treatment and support.  Read more

Cancer Prevention Program
The Center for African-American Health is a partner with the AMC Cancer Research Center on a three-year research project to reduce cancer-related health disparities in northeast Denver, an area of the city heavily populated by African Americans. Read more

Prostate Cancer Screening Month
In an effort to find and treat prostate cancer early in African-American men, each September, the Center sponsors an annual public awareness campaign about prostate cancer and provides free prostate cancer screenings.  Read more

Colon Cancer Awareness
The Center conducts an annual outreach campaign to African Americans encouraging them to get screened for colon cancer.  Read more

Cardiovascular Disease
The Center sponsors regularly-scheduled classes on cardiovascular disease and conducts a public education campaign about the cardiovascular risks for African Americans. Read more

The Center is committed to improving the quality of life for seniors by promoting healthy lifestyles. Read more

Chronic Disease Self-Management Programs
Self-management programs are designed to help people with chronic diseases gain self-confidence in their ability to control their symptoms and control how their health problems affect their lives.

Diabetes Self-Management
Focus on Diabetes is a six-week class that teaches individuals living with diabetes, and their caregivers, skills related to proper nutrition, the use of medication, a suitable exercise program, dealing with emotions, and communicating with their health care provider. Read more

Chronic Disease Self-Management
African Americans with chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, heart disease and arthritis, learn the skills needed in the day-to-day management of their conditions. Read more
