Over 1,000 African Americans Attend

9th Annual Health Fair
"Empowering the Community to Live Well"

More 1,000 African-Americans converged upon the Renaissance Denver Hotel on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011 to take advantage of free health screenings, exhibits and workshops at the Center for African-American Health's 9th Annual Health Fair.

The free screenings included:

  • Blood Pressure
  • Pap Smear
  • Dental
  • Health Risk Assessment
  • Glucose & Cholesterol
  • Prostate (DRE & PSA)
  • Vision
  • Bone Density
  • Clinical Breast Exam
  • Lung Function
  • Depression
  • Memory
  • EKG
  • Foot

Seventy exhibitors provided information on topics ranging from caregiver education, weight loss, nutrition, asthma, and resources for seniors. Workshops on fall prevention, CPR and diabetes also were held. Plus, there were other free activities such as:

  • Massage Therapy
  • Reflexology
  • Food Tastings
  • Fitness Clinics and Tips
  • Cooking Demonstrations
  • Pneumonia Shots
  • Flu shots

The Center for African-American Health extends its thanks to the more than 300 volunteers who worked at the health fair, and to its two major sponsors, Eli Lilly and the Caring for Colorado Foundation.
