2010 Health Fair Sets Another Attendance Record

Close to 1,200 people participated in the Center for African-American Health's 8th Annual Health Fair on January 30, setting yet another attendance record for the popular event.

The free  health screenings, which ranged from blood screenings, clinical breast exams, and free dental exams to glucose screenings, Pap smears and EKGs, were provided by more than 350 volunteers. Additional results included:

* 150 adults had their blood pressure checked and 55 were referred for further attention;             

* 89 men had a prostate cancer screening

* 49 adults participated in mental health screenings.

In addition, participants benefitted from health information provided by 75 exhibitors, and workshops on topics including colon cancer awareness and emergency preparedness.

The health fair was made possible with generous support from Caring For Colorado Foundation, Health ONE/Rose Medical Center, Saint Joseph Hospital, Denver-Rocky Mountain Association of Black Psychologists, Colorado Council of Black Nurses, Western Dairy Association, and the Colorado Foundation for Public Health and Environment.
